Authentic & Simple Comfort

Local People, Real Stories

Green House Tambopata is a socially responsible company. It is not a lodge or hotel; it is a jungle house with basic private rooms located very close to the Tambopata River shore. Our commitment is that our travelers have an authentic Amazon experience. We are located near the Tambopata Reserve, 20 minutes from the city of Puerto Maldonado by land, at km 4.5 of the Tourist Corridor. With our team of local residents, we offer excursions within the Tambopata Reserve with opportunities to observe a wide diversity of fauna and flora, as well as to carry out nature activities and personalized excursions, always focused on the jungle experience where sustainable development is our commitment. For this reason, we allocate a percentage of our income to support local athletes and to carry out environmental education activities such as our “Parrot House” project.

Excursions

1.- Environmental interpretation walk on a trail system to learn about the uses of the forest and medicinal plants. Along the trail, we sometimes have the opportunity to spot monkeys, squirrels, and tarantulas.

2.- Hike to the viewpoint at sunset and boat ride on the Tambopata River to search for caimans and capybaras along the riverbanks.

3.- Search for sloths along the banks of the Madre de Dios River.

4.- Native family experience. In Madre de Dios, we have more than 30 native communities divided into 7 ethnic groups, each with its own identity and way of enjoying the Amazon. On this occasion, we will visit a Machiguenga family to learn about their culture and their relationship with the environment in a global context.

5.- Sandoval Lake expedition in the Tambopata Reserve. We navigate the Madre de Dios River until we reach a jungle trail, where we walk 3 km (about 70 minutes), with possible encounters with snakes, squirrels, and monkeys. Environmental interpretation until we reach the lake, where, in a small rowing canoe, we will look for boas, black caimans, monkeys, a wide variety of birds, and

6.- Piranha fishing at Yacumama Lake. We reach this place by land and, after a very short walk, arrive at a palm lake where macaws nest and which is home to piranhas, caimans, and otters. With good weather, we will witness one of the region’s most beautiful sunsets. (3 hrs)

7.-Night expedition: walk through the jungle in search of tarantulas, poisonous frogs, snakes, and nocturnal creatures in general.

8.- Parrot and small macaw clay lick. An interesting attraction on a river cliff rich in salt and clay, which forms part of the diet of psittacines. Every morning from 5:20 am, and with good weather, many parrots and small macaws gather for a colorful and exciting spectacle.
